Life convulses sometimes – accepted patterns are disrupted, assumptions eviscertated, and attitudes of pride and privilege knocked down into the ordeur of new and unanticipated circumstances.
Or – to be blunt – shit happens.
I had a pretty good life for 23 years in Chicago – upwardly mobile, had a nice condo that I got to make over – with a custom kitchen. I was able to travel and bought just about anything I wanted or needed.
And then it all went away – and my health bottomed out for a couple of years. I was on the verge of homelessness and cast myself on the mercy of my friends.
I am deeply grateful for true friendship and good people.
How in my 59th year I’m attending university, finishing up the BA degree I abandoned 27 years ago. And giving serious thought to attending grad school next Fall.
